Pitch In!

We are collecting resources and tools for our farm. ARI taught us the importance of using local resources. We are very excited if we can reuse some piece of junk or buy from local businesses; We do this because 1) it means not supporting industry that pollutes our environment, 2) reduces waste, 3) it is cheaper, and 4) it allows us to make connections based on local friendship rather than cooperate wealth.

So here is a list of some of the things we need. If you think of something not listed here, run it by us anyway! We'll take the old and ugly things from forgotten corners of your closet or brand spankin' new. The one rule is that your item should be functional. 

Garden Tools

- hoes (of all kinds)

- shovels (of all kinds)

- rakes (of all kinds) 

- spades

- pulaski

- pitchfork

Tractor Implements (3 point hitch)

- box blade

- tiller/disc

- bucket

Containers

- 5-gallon buckets
- buckets of any other size
- 50 gallon drums (metal or plastic)
- anything that is large air tight, dry, and rodent proof
- big wash basins
- pots for plants
- baskets for harvesting
- mason jars
- holiday popcorn tins
- metal trashcans

Building Materials

- good lumber (not necessarily new)

- pallets

- straw

- clay

- stone

- old bricks

- windows

- doors

- fencing (chicken wire, hardware cloth, chain link, or electric) 

- large plastic sheets (need in good condition)

- tent poles

- electrical conduit

- metal stove ventilation pipes

Volunteer Housing

- trailer
- mobile home
-RV/camper

- yurt

Storage Structures
- portable sheds
- industrial shipping containers
- shelving systems

Educational Tools
- Chalk Board or dry erase board

Composting
- yard waste (leaves and grass clippings-chemical free as possible)
- manure (chicken, rabbit, goat, sheep, or horse)
- saw dust
- wood chips or shavings
- straw
- mulch

For breeding beneficial bacteria
- old rice
- old flour
- old brown sugar

In the email you should 1) describe the item, 2) include its location, 3) suggest the best possible way to transport the item. We will reply to your email to let you know if we can use your item. Jenny and I travel to central Arkansas often and would love to pick your item up if we are in the neighborhood. Another option is to send it with someone who will be attending an event at Camp Mitchell in the near future. If you are traveling nearby feel free to swing in and drop it off on your own.

Other options for supporting the Camp Mitchell Agricultural Project are to volunteer with us! We are busily developing a system for long term volunteers: 1 - 12 months. They will need to be supported in a small way monetarily either by themselves or through a local parish. Soon we'll have an exact cost set for a week of volunteering. If you cannot volunteer yourself, support someone who can.
